reserve your ad hereHello, and welcome. I’m the Rev. Today, I am going to try and make the case regarding growing styles. Specifically, choosing organic over synthetic growing. I’m even going farther and choosing an all natural growing style like TLO (True Living Organics) in this article. Organic growing and all natural growing can be very different, believe it or not. I’ll explain. Let’s roll…
What’s Wrong with Synthetic Growing?
Let me start off by saying, if you are about to start your first grow, do it all naturally. Synthetic nutrients have so much wrong with them it would take a whole additional article to go through the whys. For our purposes today, I’ll talk about the low quality of the final harvest—no matter how well you flush! There is a “heat” in the back of your throat—a funky harshness—when smoking synthetic grown weeds. This is due to some of the chelating agents involved in synthetic fertilizers that are used to force feed your plants, and they’re also used as preservatives.
Preservative … What an innocent word, right? Preservatives can also be called, life-killing. Yeah, synthetic fertilizers use these synthetic toxic salt concoctions/preservatives not unlike embalming fluid actually. Things like EDTA as one example. But there are more of them. So, another function of these additions is that it force-feeds your plants. This is due to “atomic” levels of chelation. Chelation itself is a natural process of nature, allowing plants to be able to absorb certain nutrients from the living soil. These synthetic agents, like EDTA use chemistry to force (slam) nutrients into plants. Leftover in your plants at harvest are not only excess micro nutrients, but all those hideous salty toxic synthetic compounds—yeah, they don’t flush out, it’s not their nature, they are unnatural. Ya follow?
Chelation (in Moderation) Is an All Natural Growing Style
Chelation is actually fairly complex, but for our purposes here you can think of it like how when you touch a paper towel to a puddle of liquid like water. The water is instantly and unavoidably attracted into the paper towel. That’s how basically it works with those synthetic salts. Along with the synthetic salts compounds forcibly being absorbed into your plants, some nutrients ride along force feeding the plant.
In nature, chelation happens on much smaller/lesser scales, and without all the leftover salty synthetic concoctions containing things like formaldehyde and even worse toxic salts. No wonder those synthetic buds taste so nasty, right? Okay then, I just wanted to help you get a grip on synthetically enhanced chelation in a very basic sense. Onward…
The Synthetic Aftermath
Not to mention using synthetics outdoors can ruin the soil for years and years, causing the soil to need Bioremediation stat! All the soil and nutrient solution that you dump is a nasty pollutant. Yup. Soooo… What do ya think is in your buds? In the resin, in everything. It smokes nasty. There’s no such thing as good synthetically grown buds, in my opinion. They LOOK good, but they’re nasty to smoke when compared to organically grown buds. I know what I’m talking about here. 😉
Now, don’t get all pissed off if you are a synthetic grower. Separate your heart from your head and just test what I am saying for yourself, or faster yet, trust me. I been doing this for a minute. Heh heh. I have literally converted over 20 peeps locally to TLO all natural growing style by simply tossing them a ¼ oz. to smoke. Boom. Done dealio, they’re converted. I shit you not amigos. The difference is that big!
Organic Growing is a Broad Definition
Organic growing is leaps and bounds higher quality results for your buds than synthetic. However, “under the tent” of the definition of ‘organic growing’ there’s a fairly broad bandwidth of styles. Lemme ‘splain…
You can be totally organic, even when using bottles of liquid nutrients, like Earth Juice nutrients as one example. However, this is far from an all natural growing style. These types of liquid organic nutrients also slam nutrients into plants whether they want/need them or not, but they use organic acids rather than synthetic salt compounds. So, no leftover nasty salts. However, thorough fading must be done at the end to avoid excess micronutrients (and macro/secondary nutrients).
Your end results are not quite what all natural growing style can give you, but it’s a paradyme shift better than anything synthetically fed. Truth baybee, truth.
Why an All Natural Growing Style is Superior
First of all, if you want a great book describing an all natural growing style for use with cannabis (or anything else) grab a copy of my latest book, True Living Organics the Druid’s Edition by The Rev.
There actually are very few bottled nutrients that can be used with all natural growing. You can see a couple in the photo below. In my book I show you how to use these the proper way in your gardens and get fantastic top shelf buds that are elegant to smoke.
Let’s just drop the whole bottles of liquid fertilizers thing now, for a little jaunt into all natural growing, shall we? Basically, here’s the deal, your living soil feeds your living plant. You feed your living soil. Hence the name of my book True Living Organics. Get some decent water, like your basic groundwater/tap water dechlorinated normally works fine. With some powerful living soil full of rich organic matter like TLO soil, and that’s pretty much all you need right there. Literally.
In my book I show you guys how to kick up Mother Nature a notch and make that soil life supernatural, again, literally. Once you smoke your buds grown this way it will hit you like a ton of bricks. It will! All you need to know about big yields is, A: Genetics, and B: What’s NOT in the buds at the end. Like too much of one or more nutrients. Use whatever all natural nutrient sources are available to you, like lawn clippings—yup. An all natural growing style is awesome!
Afterword
I hope you found this article inspiring my friends. Using an all natural growing style is thee shit when it comes to final product quality, full stop. See for yourself! Want some more Rev? Check this out, Probably NOT a Potassium Deficiency, by The Rev. I also want to tell you that over at Kingdom Organic Seeds (KOS) there’s a big half off sale going on for selected varieties until the end of November. For sure go check that out. A real connoisseur variety that flies under the radar is the Red Sky, and she’s included. Just sayin,’ heh heh.
Well man, I’m so old now it’s another day trying not to be too Mr. Magoo-ish, LoL 😆 yikes. I’ll catch ya’ll back here on the flip-flop. Until then, L8r G8rs.

I'm The Rev, and I have been with SKUNK for about a decade now. I hail from Southern California, spent mucho time in Northern California, and now reside in Southern Oregon; always coastal. I am an all natural style cannabis grower and I have written a couple books on the subject - check out True Living Organics 2nd Edition on Amazon - I have been growing for over 45 years, and I have been breeding cannabis for over 30 years. Check out kingdomorganicseeds.com to see some exotic selections. Growing connoisseur cannabis is what I teach mostly, growing it in living soil without using liquid organic nutrients to feed the plant. I am also a highly skilled synthetics grower, hydroponics, aeroponics, DWC/SWC/NFT, Ebb and Flow, and soilless, but I cringe when smoking synthetic grown herbs, so for the last 15 years or so I preach the artisan style of all natural growing, specializing in container growing. Cheers and welcome aboard.
