“Mama Gaia” first appeared as the centerfold illustration in Skunk Magazine’s 2015 “Women in Weed” issue—an issue revering the mothers, daughters, care takers and tireless freedom fighters in the cannabis movement. I wanted to create a place of celebration, sway and softness, something that honored the female plant Spirit. In creating this illustration, I thought about how the feeling, loving nature of the cannabis plant was the key to what stymies our modern society. To connect a little more, to return to the garden of ease, sensation and love.
