Welcome to Rev’s Rave MILF (Marijuana I’d Love to Find), and for today’s variety, the Cinderella 99, often called “C99” and it is a very special plant known for its unique characteristics and effects. It was originally bred by the Brothers Grimm and has since been further developed (inbred 4 times) by KOS (Kingdom Organic Seeds). This article will explore its qualities, how it’s best grown, and what makes it such a standout, in my opinion…

I’m the Rev, and I have been growing cannabis for over 50 years now—yup. C99 has been one of my all-time favorites for about 3 decades or so now. She is super easy to grow; her buds are gooey as hell and uber smelly/tasty too. Her hightype is very sativa-leaning, and for a plant that only flowers for 8-ish weeks, that’s actually pretty incredible, I think.

Key Cinderella 99 Characteristics

C99 2025

C99 “F4” is bred and cultivated for this article using True Living Organics (TLO). C99 comes from a long inbred line (IBL), meaning it has been carefully inbred over many generations to maintain specific traits—or, possibly backcrossed/selfed in the past. Here’s a quick look at its main features:

  • Yield/Size: C99 offers a low to average yield and size, worth it, in my opinion. She is what I would call petite. About 25% of the females actually yield okay.
  • Flowering Time Indoors: Expect it to flower in about 8 to 9 weeks when grown indoors.
  • Aromas: It has distinct smells of overripe figs, dank hash/resin, and sometimes pineapple.
  • Flavors: The taste is elegant, tangy, with notes of overripe sweet figs and pineapple.
  • Effects Duration (Legs): The effects typically last about 2.5 hours, with a smooth come-down and no “hangovers”.
  • Stretch: It tends to just about double in size during flowering stage.
  • Lighting: It can be grown well using MH, HPS, LED, or T5 lights.
  • Photoperiods: Different basic light cycles are used for different stages: 16/8 for sprouting (see Sexing Plants below) 18/6 for vegetative growth, and 12/12 for flowering.
  • Genetic Ratios: It’s about 75% Sativa and 25% Indica I would say, making it nicely Sativa dominant.
  • Outdoor Harvest: If grown outdoors in the Northern Hemisphere, it’s ready for harvest in the first week of October at the latest.
  • Difficulty: No special skills are needed to grow her other than a primo environment free from parasites and high humidity.
  • Germination Rate: KOS C99 has a high germination ratio of over 90%.
  • Breeding: regular seeds, meaning KOS uses real male plants, and does not involve selfing, reversing, or femming.

C99 2025 Cola Tip Indoors

The Story Behind KOS’ Cinderella 99 Line

The original C99 seeds were obtained by me around 2004 from my online friend (RC Cola), who was close with the Brothers Grimm, the original breeders. While the exact generation of those initial seeds isn’t known, it was a high number. These seeds have been inbred four times since then by Kingdom Organic Seeds, which has helped bring out a beautiful purple color that was a hidden trait in the C99 line. Many individual plants now show cool purple coloration on their leaves and/or calyxes, and the dried buds look striking and are coated in resin.

One interesting characteristic is a specific type (phenotype) I call “The Beast,” which appears in about 1 out of every 3 or 4 plants. This “Beast” phenotype fairly often also has a pineapple flavor/smell and yields about 20% more than other C99 plants. “The Beast” plants are also stronger, larger, and have bigger buds.

Another fairly common phenotype, appearing in about 1 out of 4 or 5 plants, is the “Pineapple Phenotype of C99”. These plants are exceptional in their pineapple-like smells and flavors. They also tend to produce more resin, which is notable, because all C99 plants are known for their high resin production.

The Cinderella 99 “Poor Man’s Sativa” Experience

As of 2025, Cinderella 99 remains a favorite of mine, sometimes called “a poor man’s sativa” because it offers an experience that is fairly close to a pure sativa at about 8 weeks flowering time. It’s known for being “soaring,” creative, and inspiring. While it provides a clear-ish head high, it’s not fully a clear-type sativa. It also has a slight physical (body) effect, though it’s not sleepy. This is considered a good strain for true sativa enthusiasts and connoisseurs due to her highly exotic nature and sativa facets, rather than for large-scale commercial growing, as she doesn’t produce bulky yields. Though the beast phenotypes actually yield okay/pretty good. Running clones of Beast clones would yield fine.

Another facet to the C99 hightype is what I feel is a SEA (South East Asian) contribution. Her energy is a tad on the anxious side for some peeps. Like, I just get the kind of “dark-energy” from her, I don’t get paranoid or anything. But, let’s just say I wouldn’t want to be wandering in a forest at night in a lightning storm all baked on C99. That could get sketchy, LoL. Ya get me? So, for this reason I suggest you start off with a smaller dosage of Cindy at first, if you are inclined to get paranoid on sativas.

Maximizing Your C99 Sativa Experience

To get the most sativa-like effects from your KOS C99, in my opinion, harvesting at the right time is key. I recommend to harvest at around 8, to 8.5 weeks, or when 15% to 30% of the resin heads are amber. This allows more of the sativa qualities to shine through, I have found.

Drying is also crucial. Always dry the plants in a very dark place, though it doesn’t need to be as dark as during the flowering stage, it should be at least very dim. Maintain the humidity around 40% to 50% and temperatures between 70 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit. This drying method typically takes me about 3 to 4 weeks. Drying plants in too much light can make the resin properties lean towards a more narcotic (sedative) effect, in my experience.

Curing for at least 30 days sealed up in the dark is a must do if you really want to experience her unique and complex terpenes and other resin properties. She smells and tastes very much like sickeningly sweet, or overripe figs. Seriously a connoisseur variety all the way around. And the price is right 😉 so have a looksee at the link up top.

Growing Tips

C99 is generally not recommended for outdoor growing by KOS. While it could thrive under ideal outdoor conditions, its long inbred lineage makes it susceptible to environmental stresses like parasites and mold, which can quickly destroy it. It truly requires a clean growing environment free from pests and high humidity in order to fully shine. Most long IBLs need fairly pristine environmental conditions. Here are some more C99-specific growing instructions:

  • Sprouting: Please do not sprout these seeds on a 24/0 light cycle (photoperiod) with lights always on. KOS recommends a 16/8 light cycle for sprouting until the plants are 30 days old, then switching to 18/6 for power-vegging if you wish, heh heh.
  • Sexing Plants: Alternatively, you can use a 12/12 light cycle for the first 14 days after sprouting, then switch to 18/6 (or 16/8). This allows for easy sexing of the plants around 30 days of age using a magnifying glass.
  • Flowering Readiness: For maximum resin production, always allow plants to be at least 55 days old from sprouting before starting the flowering process.
  • Seeds vs. Clones: Plants grown from seed do much better outdoors in the ground than clones. Conversely, clones perform much better in containers than plants grown from seeds. I know personally how true this is.
  • Sprouting Temperature/Style: Sprout seeds in ambient temperatures between 75 and 85 degrees Fahrenheit. Sprouting directly into living soil is my preferred method.
  • Organic Growing: KOS always recommends growing organically in living soil to fully appreciate the smells and flavors, among many other benefits.

I have been messing with C99 for over 20 years. So, I know a thing or two about her. If you are a grower that truly enjoys some different cannabis, I highly recommend trying the Cinderella 99. If you require larger yields for your gardens, the C99 is not your girl. Qualities vs. Quantity, and to me, the qualities are a must try. Until next time my green amigos, L8r G8rs…
