I hate to beat a dead horse, but man, do I miss the California medical market. There was a time when all these crazy products were coming out, breath strips, drinks, sprays, etc. Those were all cool, but the one that has always stuck in my mind was the Pixie Stix hash paper joints. I used to drive at least 1.5 hours from my home in West Marin to the East Bay to grab some of these legendary joints.

For those who don’t know what they are, they are a “joint,” but not just rolled with an ordinary rolling paper, no, these were rolled in a thin layer of coldwater hash, which was pressed into a thin layer. I have been making coldwater hash for over 20 years, and I have attempted this type of “paper” on paper; it seems super simple. Take coldwater hash, spread a thin layer between parchment paper, fill a wine bottle with warm water, and then slowly roll the hash into one piece. Seems simple, right? Nope. A lot of different strains will form into the sheet, but when you go to roll them up, it will break. So, to find the perfect strain for this is laborious, to say the least. Popping seeds, making mothers, cloning, flowering, and then washing them just to find out they didn’t have the properties you wanted for a Pixie Stix type paper.

I have seen a few companies attempt to bring these to the legal market, and I have purchased all of them. To say it was a failed attempt would be an understatement. Step in a man by the name of ELROCK, he’s born and raised in the bay and has been a part of the cannabis industry since the 90’s before all these “Chads” as we call them in the industry. El Rock came up with the idea to bring the Pixie Stix family into the fold with Skypack Farms. Before they brought Pixie Stix fam into the fold, they were making a pre-roll called the Pocket Rocket, which was infused with HTE, THC-A Diamonds, and Keif. I have tried those, and I have to say they smoked all the way through, which a lot of infused joints have a problem doing. I can’t express how much of an issue that is with all of the infused pre-rolls on the market have.

The hand-rolled Black Hole is a whopping 2.8 total grams consisting of a 1.5g hash wrap, 1g of flower infused with 0.3g of rosin. I like that Skypack took it up a notch and added the rosin. They only make between 250 and 600 pre-rolls in each batch. It is the highest pre-roll joint on the market and the only paperless pre-roll in CA. A lot of people are like, “Why would I spend over $100 on a pre-roll (they retail for around $120)?” To be honest, they are a lot for one joint, but what you get for your money is well worth it. They last a long time and when you finish it to the glass tip and then toss it back into the glass jar. When you get home, pull the rest of the hash off and break it up for bong hits. I also save the glass tip and wash it in rubbing alcohol, and then reuse it. Their latest batch is made with Unicorn Runtz with Strawberry Fields rosin, and it tests at around 64%. I also really like that Pixie Stix have been around for a long time, and they know how to select the right strains. In order to make a proper reverse hash hole, you need the hash to be a little bit greasy; if it’s not, you risk the hash drying out before you smoke it. I’ve smoked a handful of these, and they are always on point. I prefer saving these for special occasions, like birthday parties, weddings, etc. You can find them via their website (platinumdistro.com), where they carry them in the CA legal market. Don’t sleep on them!

I would like to take a second to mention how important it is to be supporting these legacy cannabis industry veterans. These are the people who put their necks on the line during the medical days; they were faced with raids, robbery, and arrest, but still continued to provide clean medicine in the face of all of that madness. These are the people who are responsible for the legal market we have now, without them there would be no legal market. It’s kind of disheartening to see all of these companies in the market and thriving because they have tons of money to spend on advertising and massive trade show booths, not to mention the celebrities they employ to push their meds. Shout out to ELROCK,(@therealelrock) Skypack Farms(@skypack_farms and www.skypackfarms.com) and last but not least Pixie Stix (@pixie_stix_official).
