reserve your ad hereWelcome and hello. I’m The Rev and I have been growing cannabis for over 50 years at this point in time, yikes I’m old, heh heh. Today’s MILF (Marijuana I’d Love to Find) Rev’s Rave is the Black Poison from Kingdom Organic Seeds (KOS). She is a sativa dominant beauty. Not like a lot of “sativas” out there that are not sativas at all in my opinion. Not only does she have the energy of a true sativa but she’s also very resilient when it comes to dealing with high humidity, even rain. Let’s have a closer look, shall we?

The Black Poison Fast Deets
Name: Black Poison F3
Breeder: KOS (Kingdom Organic Seeds)
Growing/Breeding Approach: True Living Organics (TLO)
Genetic Background (Lineage): This variety is a cross between KOS’ Black Forrest and KOS’ Black Durban genetics. South East Asian and South African Meet.
Expected Yield/Size: Large
Indoor Flowering Time: This plant typically takes 10 to 12 weeks to flower when grown indoors.
Aroma Profile: Its scent is sharp and hazy, with notes similar to “cat piss” and Nag Champa incense.
Flavor Profile: The flavors are sharp, exotic, and acrid, often with citrus or lemony undertones.
Stretch (Growth during Flowering): Expect the plant to stretch (increase in height) by 2 (up to 3) times its vegetative size, depending on the specific plant (phenotype) and environment.
Black Poison Recommended Light Cycles (Photoperiods):
- Sprouting: KOS recommends a light cycle of 16 hours of light and 8 hours of darkness (16/8). Alternatively, for the first 14 days after sprouting, a 12/12 light cycle can be used, then transition to a 16/8 light cycle. This will make them very easy to sex when they are right about 30 days old.
- Vegetative Growth (Veg): After sprouting, switch to 18 hours of light and 6 hours of darkness (18/6); a 16/8 light schedule is also all good for veg.
- Flowering: For flowering, a 12-hour light and 12-hour dark light cycle ( a 12/12 photoperiod) is recommended.
Sativa/Indica/Ruderalis Ratios: This is primarily a Sativa-dominant hybrid, with an approximate ratio of 80% Sativa to 20% Indica. True Sativa Effects.
Outdoor Harvest (Northern Hemisphere): Plants grown outdoors in the Northern Hemisphere are typically ready for harvest during the first week of November.
Germination Rate: The seeds have a high germination rate, usually 90% or higher.
Breeding Philosophy: Black Poison was bred using regular seeds, meaning it was bred using real male plants. KOS does not use methods like selfing (self-pollination), reversing (chemically inducing female plants to produce male flowers), or femming (creating feminized seeds) in their breeding process.

Overview of the F3 Generation
To create these F3 generation seeds, I used three Black Poison F2 female plants and one F2 male plant. One of these F2 females showed strong characteristics of the Durban Poison lineage. The other two F2 females were more similar to the Vietnamese Black parent from the original Black Forrest P1 male. Because of these different parent plants, you can expect some variation in the characteristics (phenotypes) of the F3 plants. The Durban Poison-dominant F2 female was particularly notable for its exceptional resin production. All the female plants produced good resin, but that specific F2 female truly stood out.
This strain is often sought after by those who appreciate Sativa-dominant varieties. A key advantage is its resistance to mold and mildew, and it handles rainfall well.

Insights into the Effects
There were notable differences in the “high” produced by the Durban Poison-dominant F2 Black Poison female compared to the F2 Black Poison plants that leaned more towards the Vietnamese Black side. I made hash from the deseeded buds from each female plant for testing.
- The Durban Poison-dominant female provided a “rollercoaster ride” where the effects hit in waves, lasting for hours after consumption. This is as a very enjoyable experience, reminiscent of the pure Durban Poison lineage itself.
- The Vietnamese-dominant females offered a more consistent and intense experience that would gradually build for about 20 minutes after consumption.
Both types of plants have a “creeper” effect, meaning the onset of the high takes around 20 minutes. Once the effects begin, they are long-lasting, remaining very strong for several hours.

P1 (original) Black Poison Lineage Details
- Male Parent (P1): A superior F1 Black Forrest male was used as the paternal (father) P1 breeder in the original cross.
The Black Forrest is a 98% pure landrace sativa from the Vietnam Jungle. She also has three legendary (heirloom cultivars) Hawaiian sativas in the mix.
- Female Parent (P1): A Black Durban female served as the maternal (mother) breeder in the original cross.
The Black Durban hybrid resulted from crossing a Black Russian female (from Nebu’s genetics) with two Durban Poison (from Dutch Passion’s genetics) males, affectionately known as “The Durban Brothers.”
Creative and Social Qualities

A significant aspect of this hybrid is its potential to inspire creativity. It’s best aspect to me is a very creative and clear state of mind. While it delivers a strong effect, it doesn’t leave you feeling overly sedated or “stuck on stupid”. This makes it an excellent choice for social situations, parties, watching movies, hiking, or whatever. You are able to maintain your mental clarity and remember your thoughts, which is often not the case with many other cannabis varieties. I particularly enjoy writing under her influence and suggest it would likely be great for other artistic pursuits like drawing or painting, I want to emphasize that “creative is really an understatement”. This variety most definitely uniquely stimulates creative thinking.
Black Poison Growing Instructions
This plant is remarkably resilient and is described as “bulletproof.” As with most Sativa-dominant varieties, it’s advised not to “over-love” them (meaning don’t overwater or over-fertilize). This hybrid tolerates higher humidity levels well and is highly resistant to mold and mildew. Some female plants grown outdoors along the Southern Oregon coast have even been successfully harvested in November without developing any mold, while other plants harvested in October did suffer from mold. Like other strong Sativa varieties, its natural structure helps protect its flowers from bad weather, like rain.

Important Growing Tips:
- Sprouting: Do not sprout these seeds under a continuous 24-hour light cycle. KOS recommends a 16 hours on / 8 hours off light cycle for sprouting and until the plants are 30 days old. Then, after a couple of weeks switch to an 18 hours on / 6 hours off cycle.
- Early Sexing: Alternatively, if you use a 12/12 light cycle for sprouts during their first 14 days above ground, then switch to an 18/6 or 16/8 light cycle, you can almost always determine the sex of the plants easily around 30 days of age (give or take 3 days).
- Resin Production: Always allow plants to reach at least 55 days old from the time they sprout before starting the flowering stage. This practice helps ensure maximum resin production.
- Outdoor vs. Containers: Plants grown from seed tend to perform much better outdoors in the ground, while clones generally do much better in containers.
- Sprouting Temperature: Sprout seeds in ambient temperatures between 75- and 85-degrees Fahrenheit (24-29 degrees Celsius).
- Organic Growing: KOS strongly recommends growing these plants organically in living soil. This approach allows for the full appreciation of their unique smells and flavors, among many other benefits.

I'm The Rev, and I have been with SKUNK for well over a decade now. I hail from Southern California, spent mucho time in Northern California, and now reside in Southern Oregon; always coastal. I am an all natural style cannabis grower and I have written a few books on the subject - check out True Living Organics, Druid’s Edition on Amazon - I have been growing for over 50 years, and I have been breeding cannabis for over 30 years. Check out JBC Seeds to see some exotic KOS selections. Growing connoisseur cannabis is what I teach mostly, growing it in living soil without using liquid organic nutrients to feed the plant. I am also a highly skilled synthetics grower, hydroponics, aeroponics, DWC/SWC/NFT, Ebb and Flow, and soilless, but I cringe when smoking synthetic grown herbs, so for the last 20 years or so I preach the artisan style of all natural growing, specializing in container growing. Cheers and welcome aboard.
